During a ten week project, run as an after school club for Lewisham pupils from three schools who were identified as facing significant life challenges, artists whose greatest work has been inspired by migration or displacement were explored. For example Van Gogh, Edmonia Lewis, Frank Auerbach, Ana Maria Pacheco andNiki de Saint Phalle.
Participants were encouraged to form opinions of these artists’ work and share those opinions verbally and dramatically and these were filmed as used in the end of project exhibitions.
Guided and supported by Talk About Art’s professional arts practitioners, they have been encouraged to use their own life experiences in a positive and creative way.
These examples the result of those ten weeks’ voyage of discovery.
