Our Offer for Schools
Who We Are
Established in 2015, Talk About Art is a charity connecting artists and designers with Early Years and Primary settings in Lewisham and Greenwich. We invite children to create, collaborate, question and learn through art and design. We believe creative engagement can help to develop confidence, support wellbeing and foster a life-long love of learning.
What We Do
We work in partnership with schools, artists and cultural institutions to inspire and engage children who may ordinarily have limited access to the visual arts and London’s galleries and museums. We work with teachers to develop hands-on creative workshops, giving children access to meaningful and high-quality creative experiences. Our activities include collaborative drawing exercises, model making workshops, environmental co-design, celebratory exhibitions and teacher development. Things to make, explore, discuss and learn from.
Who We Work With
We work with recent art and design graduates from leading institutions including the Bartlett School of Architecture and Goldsmiths University, alongside established artists and designers. We partner with Early Years and Primary settings across Lewisham and Greenwich to share creative practices and create opportunities for children to make, think critically and reimagine spaces in their schools and communities.
Taster Sessions
In these single-session workshops children explore creative making with a practising artist. These sessions are free and run for a half day, offering a taste of collaborative, artist-led practices and how they can fit into your curriculum. Children work with a broad range of materials and methods, from ceramics to drawing to environmental design. They create artworks to keep while developing new ways of thinking and working together.
Perfect opportunity for schools wanting to get to know Talk About Art before developing a long-term partnership.
Extended Projects
Please note: these programmes are subject to Talk About Art securing further funding.
Multi-session projects help children to reimagine the school environment. Children become co-creators of their classrooms, working with artists to design installations, transform spaces or explore their community. Our extended programmes can include:
These programmes support the new enrichment entitlement while building student engagement, developing critical thinking and reducing absenteeism through meaningful creative participation.
Teacher Development
We support teachers to embed creative practices into their teaching. Our CPD workshops introduce collaborative methods, democratic approaches to learning and ways to use art and architecture as tools for critical thinking across the curriculum.
Recent Projects
Wild Co-Design
Children co-designed an outdoor studio and planting scheme, creating custom cyanotype deck chairs and reimagining the school garden as a space for reflection and play. They became stakeholders in their environment, learning community-centred design from practising artists and place-makers.
Connections
Children explored materials, movement, and memory through collaborative drawing workshops. The project developed motor skills and spatial awareness while building staff confidence in embedding creativity into teaching.
Wishes for Deptford
Children designed and created ceramic tiles inspired by Deptford's built environment, forming a collaborative mural displayed in a school-wide arts festival. The project gave children a creative voice while connecting the school to its local heritage.
